Historical origin
The Lioness coffee table borrows the design of a French treedpod table from the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection in New York City. The table, made of wood and bronze with gilded and mosaic surface, dates from about 1815-1825, and has exquisitely ornamented winged lion legs and details of flora and fauna. The upper part depicts four birds drinking from a golden bowl, and is decorated with openwork edging. The Lioness coffee table echoes the silhouette of the museum table, with three-pronged bronze trim legs and the elegant simplicity of a transparent glass countertop.
