Historical origin
The Lucca Column is inspired by a set of six marble columns created in Granada, Spain between 1350 and 1400, now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. These columns originally belonged to the Alhamra, the famous royal palace and city complex in Granada, whose name means "red" because of the red clay used in construction. Narrow columns are characteristic of the architectural style of the Nasrid dynasty (1232–1492) and served as decoration of the outdoor courtyards between the palaces. The Lucca column, made of smooth white marble, becomes a museum-level pedestal for exhibiting.
